Neodymium magnets

Neodymium magnets are real supermagnets!

Strong and small, test the magnets in your applications and you will be convinced!
Neodymium magnets (composition NdFeB Neodymium-iron-boron), also known as neodymium or supermagnets, are the strongest permanent magnets. The initial material is manufactured by sintering and the final shapes of the neodymium magnets are cut according to regular shapes. Thanks to this manufacturing process, it is possible to deliver a wide range of shapes and types of neodymium magnets (NdFeB or neodymium), with various degrees of magnetization. These magnets are part of the new generation of magnets; thanks to its properties it has found its usefulness in many fields.

Neodymium magnets (NdFeB or neodymium) are very stable and are a little sensitive to external magnetic fields. On the other hand, in the case of high temperatures (starting from 80 degrees Celsius but in some cases over 100-150 degrees Celsius) neodymium magnets can completely lose their magnetism, unlike ferrite magnets which are much more resistant to high temperatures .

The advantage of neodymium magnets (NdFeB) consists in safe operation and excellent magnetic characteristics related to a significantly smaller mass of the magnet. Basically, these magnets represent small advanced technological jewels. As an example, a neodymium cube (NdFeB) with a side of only 5 mm can have a force of 1.2 kg!

According to the shape, we can have neodymium magnets (NdFeB or neodymium) of regular or irregular shape (specially for the project):

  • prism neodymium magnets (cube or parallelepiped),
  • disc or cylinder neodymium magnets,
  • sphere neodymium magnets,
  • ring neodymium magnets,
  • circle spring neodymium magnets,
  • neodymium cone magnets,
  • neodymium magnets with special shapes.

Surface treatment of neodymium magnets (NdFeB or neodymium)
Neodymium magnets (neodymium or NdFeB) are very sensitive to corrosion, oxidizing strongly if the material is exposed directly. For this reason, neodymium magnets are covered with a layer of nickel, zinc or epoxy resins, embedded in rubber or the magnets are subjected to surface treatment by passivation.

Neodymium magnets on order
If you can’t find the magnet you want for your application, you can ask us for a written offer. Our team of specialists will return with information about the requested magnet after discussing with our suppliers. Certain types of magnets can be procured in 1-2 weeks, but there are also cases when the magnets must be specially produced to order, in which case an advance payment and a waiting time of 4-12 weeks will be required.

Neodymium or ferrite magnets?
Compared to ferrite magnets, the attraction force of neodymium magnets is about five times stronger for the same volume/shape of the magnet. Because it is harder to manufacture and from a rarer ore (neodymium is also called “rare earth”), neodymium magnets are more expensive, being used especially for indoor applications. In general, neodymium magnets are covered with a layer of nickel, gold or other metals to protect them from corrosion.

The indisputable advantage of neodymium magnets is their extremely high strength compared to their small volume, representing a good alternative to ferrite magnets. In addition, their appearance recommends them for design applications, where they are visible.

An extensive comparison of the advantages and disadvantages of neodymium and ferrite magnets, but also other extremely interesting information about magnets can be found in the Frequently asked questions about magnets.
